Please join us and experience Sweden in Westlake Park (4th & Pine), May 2nd, 11 am – 2 pm. The Grand Opening of Sweden Week will be a celebratory event showcasing Sweden with entertainment and activities for everyone.

Lars Jonsson, Honorary Swedish Consul to State of Washington, will officially open Sweden Week at 12 pm. We will also “kick off” the week with 5 soccer balls signed by the Sounders player Fredrik Ljungberg!

Get all your questions answered in the Sweden Week information booth. Here you’ll find programs and information about the upcoming events during Sweden Week. Do the “Sweden Quiz” and you’ll have a chance to win nice prizes from ScandinavianStuff.com
. Or why not participate in a hula hoop contest accompanied by Swedish music? It’s fun and open for all ages!

SWEDISH HOSPITAL TEDDY BEAR CLINIC
Bring the whole family, and your favorite teddy bear, to the Teddy Bear Clinic hosted by Swedish Hospital. Medical students will show children what might happen when they visit the doctor. Children can have their teddy bears blood pressure taken or treated for various injuries or illnesses that their stuffed animals might need. We’ll be ready with bandages, First Aid equipment and balloons for our special patients!

”FIKA” SERVED BY SVEDALA BAKERY
Fika is not just a word, it’s a concept, used by everyone in Sweden. Fika is simply put  taking a short break, enjoying a cup of coffee and a delicious Swedish treat with a good friend or two. Tempted? Svedala Bakery will provide us with the coffee and the Swedish treats, so please come and join us for a Fika!

GO TO SWEDEN

Accompany the Fika with the Sweden 2010 brochure, you’ll find it in the Go to Sweden booth. There you’ll also find everything you need to know about how to go to Sweden and what to do there. While you’re there, practice your Swedish skills by talking to a native speaker. We’ll be around and are happy to share “must know” phrases in Swedish.

SWEDISH CULTURE

Did you know you don’t have to go all the way to Sweden to experience Swedish culture or learn Swedish? Visit the Swedish culture booth, hosted by Swedish Cultural Center and UW, and get all the information you’ll need about the Swedish cultural events going on in the Seattle area and how to sign up for Swedish language classes!

KEEP ROLLING WITH VOLVO
Experience a brand new Swedish Volvo! While you’re in the Volvo booth, take the opportunity to ask a Volvo representative on site how to get free tickets to Sweden. By the way, did you know Volvo means “I roll” in Latin?

SWEDISH FURNITURE

The worldknown Swedish company IKEA will have their own booth at the Grand Opening, showcasing Swedish furniture and design. Visit a Swedish home at the IKEA booth. Browse their catalogue and get inspired!
